Reasoning

Louie O’Doherty against Ahmed Hatim is a proper domestic dust-up. Both are unbeaten, both fancy the job, and with the British and Commonwealth lightweight titles on the line, there are big incentives for the winner. O’Doherty is the champion, Hatim is the hungry challenger, and that usually gives you a proper tear-up once the early manners are out the window.

O’Doherty is the younger man, orthodox, tidy, and he has already been through the domestic ladder, Southern Area, English, then British. That matters. Belts teach you things sparring never can. Hatim brings height, reach, and confidence, but domestic title fights are different. It is not about looking pretty for four rounds; it is about what happens when someone is leaning on your chest, nicking your rhythm, and making you work when your lungs are burning.

The nuts and bolts are simple. O’Doherty has to get his feet close enough without walking onto the jab. When he boxes in little bursts, then finishes with his feet set, he looks the business. Hatim needs discipline, the jab in O’Doherty’s chest, the right hand behind it, then a step off before the champion can answer. If he stands there admiring his work, he’ll start taking shots on the whiskers and leaking rounds.

My pick is O’Doherty. I think Hatim has good moments early, maybe nicks a couple while the champion is working him out, but O’Doherty’s pressure, fitness, and title-fight habits start telling from the middle rounds. Hatim will still be trying late, but he’ll be getting touched too clean and too often. O’Doherty to win on points.
