Jimmi Bredahl vs Oscar De La Hoya

On Saturday, 5th March 1994, at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, California,  Oscar De La Hoya and Jimmi Bredahl contested the WBO World Super-featherweight Title. The event was promoted by Top Rank and aired on HBO World Championship Boxing. Both fighters entered the ring with unbeaten records, De La Hoya boasting 11 wins and no losses, while Bredahl held 16 victories and no defeats.

In the early stages of the fight, De La Hoya demonstrated his dominance by knocking down Bredahl in both the 1st and 2nd rounds. Despite the early setbacks, Bredahl managed to continue fighting, determined to defend his title for the second time. Throughout the contest, De La Hoya maintained control, showcasing his superior boxing skills and technique.

As the fight progressed, De La Hoya continued to win every round on all judges' cards. Bredahl's strategy, which was to target De La Hoya's stomach, proved ineffective as De La Hoya focused on landing powerful shots to Bredahl's face. By the middle rounds, De La Hoya had significantly weakened Bredahl, further establishing his lead in the match.

After the completion of the 10th round, the fight took a decisive turn. The referee, Lou Moret, consulted with the ring doctor and decided to stop the bout on medical advice. The continuous barrage of punches from De La Hoya had taken its toll on Bredahl, resulting in the fight ending via retirement.

The official result declared Oscar De La Hoya the winner, improving his professional record to 12-0-0. The judges' scorecards revealed the dominance of De La Hoya, with Jess Andreasen scoring the fight 100-89, Raul Caiz Sr scoring it 100-87, and Ismael Wiso Fernandez also scoring it 100-87 in favor of De La Hoya.
